Ingredients
  • 1-1/2 lbs. lean ground beef (on sale!)
  • 1/3 cup tomato-basil pasta sauce (on sale!)
  • 1/4 lb. shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/8 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes, optional
Cooking Directions

Heat broiler. Pat meat into a 7 inch round, about 3/4 inch thick.

Lightly oil a 9 inch ovenproof skillet (cast iron works great) and heat over medium heat until hot. Carefully add beef patty to pan, cover, and cook 8 minutes. Uncover, transfer pan to broiler, and cook 4 minutes longer.

Spread sauce evenly on top of patty, leaving a 1 inch border all around. Put cheese on top of sauce and sprinkle with oregano and pepper flakes. Broil until cheese is lightly browned and bubbly, 2-3 minutes. To serve, cut into wedges.
